Contractors, DIY-ers and anyone that hates a tape measure, gather ’round! One of my partners in crime out here at Ceilume has discovered a pretty cool tool.
iPhotoMEASURE is a program that allows you to generate fairly accurate measurements for a space based only on a digital photo of that space. You only need one or two reference measurements in the picture (you could even place a piece of paper, or a ruler in the picture) for it to work.
This software allows a contractor to provide quotes on simple jobs without a trip to the job site! Home owners, you can get a materials list and purchase what you need for your project without those annoying trips up and down the ladder in the living room. This ALSO allows you to get decent measurements in areas that might not be very safe to get at with a tape measure. Imagine a scientist getting measurements of a lava flow in a completely inaccessible area of a volcano!
I’d try to explain the functionality of this program in detail, but the website does a pretty good job, so check ‘em out yourself!
The program is not quite perfect, however, so if you need exact measurements, the old school process is still the best.
